The Story of Greyhound
It all began in August 2021 with a simple yet ambitious vision: to create the first meme coin on the XRPL ecosystem. A diverse group of XRP holders from around the world came together with different backgrounds and skill sets. Meeting through an XRP Discord, they decided on the name Greyhound, inspired by the fastest dog, reflecting XRPL's reputation as the fastest network.
Greyhound started with a bang, airdropping 500 billion $GREYHOUND tokens to every wallet with the trustline, capturing the attention of the XRPL community. Shortly after the airdrop, a new member joined the team, bringing expertise in web development and graphic design, pushing the project beyond a simple meme coin toward a greater purpose.
Early Successes
From the very beginning, Greyhound became a movement that brought the community together. Through engaging events and impactful milestones, we set the foundation for what Greyhound could become.
- September 2021: Greyhound hosted its first Scavenger Hunt, a community-driven event that became a huge hit.
- November 2021: $GREYHOUND was listed on Bitrue, adding staking (Bitrue Power Piggy) to enable passive income.
- December 2021: A second Scavenger Hunt reinforced community engagement. Around the same time, another team member joined, spearheading the creation of the Houndies NFT collection while the first version of our dashboard was being built to facilitate NFT minting.
2022: Challenges and Resilience
The crypto market downturn in 2022 hit the XRPL ecosystem hard, and Greyhound was no exception. Some team members left, but the remaining team pushed forward.
- Greyhound acquired an LLC to solidify its structure.
- New developers joined to work on the dashboard.
- We applied for an XRPL Grant from Ripple, aiming to take our dashboard to new heights.
2023: Ambition Meets Setbacks
Early 2023 brought exciting news: Greyhound was selected as a grant recipient. The team began developing a modular XRPL dashboard to cater to diverse XRPL users. However, challenges arose:
- A developer scam set us back, forcing us to rebuild the project internally.
- Despite progress, the grant project was ultimately canceled in 2024 due to a lack of available resources.
While the grant team faced hurdles, the remaining members worked on the original dashboard, enabling the release of the Houndie NFT minting system in parallel.
We want to show you how far we went with the abandoned XRPLDash project. Here's a short clip demonstrating the features and functionality we built before the project was paused:
2024: Reflection and Reinvention
We began 2024 with high hopes, sharing a blog post outlining goals for two exciting projects:
- Peckers: A Discord-based game featuring pixelated fighting roosters. Players would own NFTs representing roosters and compete in battles, combining strategy and entertainment with NFT ownership. The game aimed to bring a fresh layer of interactivity and fun to our community.
- Greyhound Racing: A betting game centered on virtual Greyhound races. This project envisioned a unique blend of simulation and wagering, creating a dynamic and engaging gaming experience for the community while leveraging $GREYHOUND tokens.
Despite the creativity and effort behind these ideas, we were unable to fully realize these goals due to limited manpower, resources, and time.
A recent reunion of the remaining team members was pivotal. After lengthy discussions, the team decided on the following steps:
- Some members stepped down, while others transitioned to advisory roles.
- The remaining team members resolved to steer Greyhound in a new direction, breathing life into the project once more.
2025 and beyond: The Path Forward
As we reflect on Greyhound's journey, we believe it's time to return to our roots as a meme coin while maintaining a more focused development approach. Greyhound's essence has always been about community, fun, and innovation, but we've learned valuable lessons about promising too much too soon.
Moving forward, our strategy will be different:
Back to Basics: We're returning to our core as a meme coin, but with a smarter approach to development. Instead of pursuing multiple ambitious projects simultaneously, we'll focus on smaller, manageable initiatives that we can deliver completely before moving to the next. Our development process will be more transparent and community-driven, with regular updates and opportunities for feedback to ensure we're building features that truly benefit $GREYHOUND holders.
Immediate Actions:
- We're launching NFT staking in the coming days, allowing Houndies holders to earn passive rewards.
- The current dashboard will be discontinued. We will bulk mint all remaining Houndies and list them for sale on XRPCafe, making the purchase process more straightforward for our community.
Community Focus: We will concentrate on:
- Building Organically: Growing our community through genuine engagement and community-driven initiatives
- Exploring New Use Cases: Continuing the development of gaming/small applications based on community feedback and other potential use cases
- Enhanced Visibility: We've successfully joined Dexscreener and FirstLedger, with updated project information now live on both platforms
We're excited about this new direction. Our mission remains to make Greyhound a fun and engaging project and bring back the energy and excitement that first made us a standout project in the XRPL space.
